What is the LocoPedia?

Merriam-Webster defines an encyclopedia as "a work that contains information on all branches of knowledge or treats comprehensively a particular branch of knowledge usually in articles arranged alphabetically often by subject". A locomotive is defined as "a self-propelled vehicle that runs on rails and is used for moving railroad cars". Therefore, I will define the LocoPedia as a work that treats comprehensively a particular branch of knowledge, pertaining to diesel locomotives, in various articles, arranged in no particular order.

As a sophomore in high school, now four years ago, I wondered why there didn't seem to be a comprehensive, up-to-date, resource on locomotives. There are more to locomotives than rosters, books quickly ran out of date, and Wikipedia never delved into the minutiae of locomotives that always intrigued me. Specifics on motive power purchasing trends and the like, and the fates of certain models across all of their purchasers. The LocoPedia will attempt to solve that. Besides serving as a resource containing rosters (arranged by builder as opposed to individual railroad as many do), the LocoPedia will also be composed of numerous articles pertaining to diesel locomotives, explaining what I have found in my studies.

While most of these articles will be composed of factual material, there is often a greater point I try to make, using the evidence I have. These conclusions are by no means perfect or absolute, but rather my own perception. I'd encourage, and love to hear, dialogue in agreement or disagreement with my thoughts, in order to further advance a knowledge of diesel locomotives.
I hope you enjoy the LocoPedia, as I've enjoyed the process of making it, leading up to now. Happy reading and discussing!

Highball,

Jacob
